Al Mass Brand Reveal
Oh I have a fun one for you guys today! I say that because I was getting ready to do some blogging, and looking at colors. Colors of my site, colors of the sites my clients get and don't get me wrong, color exploration is part of our brand discovery. This one I am about to tell you about had some coral in the initial proposal, somehow for portfolio sites, blues, grays, bright whites, and slate grays help to make a portfolio stand out. The colors go with whatever you upload, and can provide a great clean palette for a brand.
Its actually not unusual for a client to say "I want the colors on your site" So we just tweak slightly. This client actually did NOT say that, but in the end we have a pretty close green/grey.
This is an example of how a color alone does not make a brand. It's just a part of a whole that makes a brand one central item.
Cris came to me looking to help her with her new brand. A designer for years, she wanted to change her audience and provide a portfolio site for her design clients and not just paper design clients. We all know how busy creative entrepreneurship is, and that standing back from your brand and seeing it from another person's perspective is always helpful.
We took the notion of a clean and neutral portfolio site and mixed with some great elements from Cris's travels to create her brand. The name Al Mass means diamond, and her brand values include finding a diamond in the rough and making it beautiful and shiny. With that we new there were going to be some sort of mono-line or slab serif notes in the brand, and then Cris also wanted to incorporate the arabic name and moroccan influences she loves together in one. We used classic moroccan patterns overlayed in a few different ways to create a texture of moroccan influence, while also getting that fractal diamond concept.
It's funny, when you have the right concept for your brand, the rest can fall into place pretty easily. Explaining this to a client has to be the hardest thing in the world, which is why it was so fun to work with Cris! She was a pleasure and so much fun to design for another designer. The more I work for other creatives, the more I know I have found my right place in the creative world!
Make sure you go check out Cris's new website, while in Portuguese I am sure you will be able to navigate pretty easily :) It's my first FULL non-english site, vs a few pieces translated and I think we did a great job!
